LabAspire - California Department of Health/University of California

The state of California's 38 public health laboratories are the state’s main line of defense in the surveillance and testing of infectious diseases and bioterrorism. Many of the current laboratory directors will be retiring in the near future and there is not an adequate pipeline of candidates to fill this critical role.

Through a collaboration of the Department of Public Health and the University of California an outreach program was established to encourage students and professionals to pursue a career in the public health labs. Greenhouse Marketing and Design was retained to develop a name (LabAspire) and identity for the program, as well as design demographically-targeted brochures, posters, spec sheets, newsletters and trade show materials to support the outreach team. An alliance was formed with Strata Marketing Group to manage the content and copy for all marketing applications. To develop content, Strata conducted interviews of scientists, microbiologists, educators and lab directors statewide, obtaining approval from the scientific committee, CDPH staff and program directors.
